Clinical research overview

This library brings together peer-reviewed studies on Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs) across a wide range of medical indications. Each study contributes to a deeper understanding of how MSCs support repair, regeneration, and immune balance in the body.

Chronic low back pain

Clinical studies are exploring Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs) in chronic low back pain (CLBP) to investigate possible regenerative and immune-related effects in spinal health. Chronic low back pain is one of the most widespread health issues globally, often linked to degenerative disc disease or other spinal changes. It can significantly reduce quality of life, and current treatments primarily target symptoms. MSC research in CLBP aims to understand whether their biological properties may contribute to disc repair or pain modulation. While results are preliminary, ongoing clinical research is expanding insights into regenerative strategies for spinal disorders.

Safety and tolerability of intradiscal implantation of combined autologous adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells and hyaluronic acid in patients with chronic discogenic low back pain: 1-year follow-up of a phase I study

Hermant Kumar, et al.
Adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells (AT-MSCs) offer potential as a therapeutic option for chronic discogenic low back pain (LBP) because of their immunomodulatory functions and capacity for cartilage differentiation. The goal of this study was to assess the safety and tolerability of a single intradiscal implantation of combined AT-MSCs and hyaluronic acid (HA) derivative in patients with chronic discogenic LBP.
